Below are helpful hints about preparing to study abroad through our program.
- Think about your objectives for your stay in Senegal before you arrive. If you have questions about how to fulfull these objectives, ask our staff! Once you have arrived always feel welcome to approach our staff or your fellow students for help in fulfulling these objectives.
- Read all of the Course Handbook and Pre-Departure Handbook before coming. Check out past program blogs and do some research about where you will be heading!
- Expect the unexpected. It is important to prepare for your trip according to what you read in the handbook and on our website. However, the nature of travel calls for flexibility and appreciating cultural differences.
- Talk with your travel doctor about shots and prescriptions you will need. There are travel clinics all over the US, and there is probably one near you.
- Check out our resources. We have Internet resources on development, language and other relevant topics; EREV documents from previous study abroad sessions; and travel tips which will help you as you prepare to go abroad.
"I feel that there is something very deep in myself, and in all of the Americans, that has changed. I feel that I cannot truly identify what it is, but the closest I can get to what I want to say is that I feel we have made a deeper connection with who we are and where we came from. I feel as if I have found a lot of direction as far as my professional career as well. Now I am almost certain that I will go into the NGO/Development field."
